How to use the stock seasonality chart

How to read a seasonal chart

The line is the stock's average path through the calendar year. Each past year is rebased to 0% on January 1, and the years are averaged day by day. Where the line rises, the stock has tended to gain at that time of year; where it falls, it has tended to lose.

An average can hide inconsistency, so the chart also shows every individual year for the range you select. One huge year can lift the average while most years went the other way.

Test any date range

Drag across the chart to select a window. The statistics update instantly: average return, median year, win rate, annualized return, best and worst year, and the number of years behind them. You can also overlay this year's actual path to see whether the pattern is repeating.

Ask the chart

Type a question such as “best window in the rest of the year” or “any reliable pattern under a month?” and the explorer searches every possible window and highlights the best matches. The numbers always come from the price history; the question only sets the search.

Chart or screener?

Use the chart to explore freely and test your own dates. Use the seasonal stock screenerto rank fixed 10, 20 and 30-day windows automatically, or open a ticker's page, such as NVDA seasonality, for its monthly table and upcoming windows.

FAQ

What is a stock seasonality chart?

A chart of a stock's average path through the calendar year, built by rebasing each past year to 0% on January 1 and averaging the years day by day. It shows when in the year the stock has tended to rise or fall.

How do I find the best seasonal window on the chart?

Drag across the chart to test a range by hand, or ask in plain English, for example "best window in the rest of the year", and the explorer searches every possible window for you.

Why does the chart show individual years as well as the average?

Because an average can be driven by one extreme year. Seeing each year shows how consistent the pattern really was.

How every figure is calculated: methodology. Seasonal statistics describe the past and are not investment advice.
