WMT Seasonality: Walmart Stock's Best and Worst Months

November 3, 2026

As a consumer staple, Walmart often behaves differently from the technology stocks that dominate market headlines, and WMT seasonality shows it. September, the market’s weakest month, has been positive for Walmart, while December has been negative. These figures use split- and dividend-adjusted prices from 2011 to 2025.

The weak windows around earnings

February 17 to 27 fell in 11 of 15 years (average −3.22%, worst −12.66%), and August 16 to 26 fell in 12 of 15 (average −1.89%, worst −10.43%). Walmart has typically reported earnings in mid-to-late February and August, so these windows may partly reflect earnings reactions. December 13 to 23 also fell in 10 of 15 years.

Reality check: these windows are the best of many tested. The June 29 window’s perfect record ended narrowly in 2026, at −0.33%, while the August 16 window fell 9.3% that year. Past patterns are historical base rates, not forecasts.
